Concha Hypertrophy Treatment
(Nose Aesthetics)

Enlarged turbinates can narrow the shared airway; this treatment carefully debulks the conchae while preserving their mucosal lining to keep both breathing and appearance natural.

Concha Hypertrophy Treatment

What is Concha Hypertrophy?

The turbinates warm, humidify and filter the air we breathe. When they become hypertrophic, the shared airway narrows, frequently alongside a deviated septum or on its own.

Causes

  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Chronic nasal obstruction
  • Additional load caused by septal deviation
  • Long-term nasal spray use
  • Chronic sinusitis
  • Environmental irritants (pollution, smoke)

Symptoms

  • Persistent congestion
  • Breathing becomes harder at night
  • Mouth breathing and snoring
  • Sense of fullness and morning dryness
  • Breathlessness during exercise

What is the treatment?

The turbinates are reduced while preserving their mucosal function; the plan can be medical or surgical depending on the degree of hypertrophy.

Treatment methods

  • Medical: allergy treatments, corticosteroid sprays, saline rinses.
  • Surgical: radiofrequency, submucosal reduction, lateralization techniques that keep the external mucosal surface intact.

How the procedure is performed

  • 15–30 minute intervention
  • General or local anesthesia
  • All entries through the nose
  • No external scars
  • Often combined with deviation correction or rhinoplasty

Relationship with deviation

When a deviated septum is addressed in the same session, the concha treatment must not be skipped; otherwise airflow remains blocked.

Recovery

  • Early days: mild congestion
  • 3–7 days: swelling subsides
  • 1 week: return to daily activities
  • 2–4 weeks: breathing feels easier

Pain & bleeding

Discomfort is minimal, bleeding is rare and packing is usually unnecessary.

Nasal dryness

Preserving the functional surface minimizes the risk of long-term dryness.

Who is this for?

  • Persistent airway obstruction
  • No response to medications
  • Patients scheduled for deviation correction
  • Snoring and sleep disturbances
  • Daily breathing difficulties

Dr. Melekber plans the airway, the natural concha physiology, and long-term comfort together.
